Today the tamariki harvested the last of our vegetables in our garden. They helped to pull the cabbages and spinach from the garden, as well as the weeds. The group has been caring for the garden for months by making sure that the plants are watered and the vegetables picked when ready.

When I was digging over the soil, the tamariki found lots of worms of all sizes. There was lots of excitement about finding the worms. The tamariki engaged in lots of conversations about being careful not to hurt the worms and comparing their sizes. After examining them and sharing with each, the worms were placed back into the garden before the children washed their hands.
After the worm exploration, the tamariki washed the cabbages and spinach. After a quick dry, the spinach was ready to bunch and wrap in newspaper. We then took the vegetables to the koha shed, ready to share with our centre whānau.
Our gardens are now ready to start planting winter vegetables.
