Children in the Mātāmua room have been exploring various areas of our great outdoors, showing their curiosity and ability to inquire, research, explore, generate, and modify working theories about the natural, social and physical worlds.

They have been provided with opportunities to learn about gravity by exploring the water experiment designed by children alongside Kaiako using various available resources in the outdoor environment. Tamariki also demonstrated their ability to learn about balance and coordination using the big tyres outside. Children felt proud moments in achieving their goals set by themselves to show their peers how they could balance independently. Children experienced control over their bodies, agility and balance, and the ability to take risks and physically challenge their bodies.

Our newly filled sandpit is another favourite area for the children to explore and actively participate in various group activities in there.

Over the last couple of days, we have had wood shaving in the trough for the tamariki to explore. Through activities like this children are able to explore the sense of touch through a variety of mediums and bring different mediums together to make sense of the natural and material world around them.
