BestStart Hillcrest tamariki and kaiako were lucky to have a special visit from Dan the Bee Man. Recently in our Project Room, the children have shown interest in the bugs they see around the center, such as bees, wasp's, butterflies and so on.  Each teacher has been investigating different bugs with the children. We were very fortunate that one of our lovely whanau had hives on their farm and organized Dan to come for a visit. Dan arrived at the center with boxes our resources for the children to see, touch and learn about, he brought in a live and empty hive some wax, a smoker and his bee outfit...the tamariki and kaiako learned about the processes of collecting and making honey, the importance of bee's in our world and after Dan had finished he presented jars of his yummy honey to the center. What a fantastic learning opportunity for our center whanau and community to engage in.
