Winter has truly blown into Forest Kindy with gusto! We have donned our thick winter jackets along with our hats to explore the new seasons forest offerings.

The children have been exploring and comparing how the trees and wildlife have changed from the previous seasons. They discovered that if they moved logs or looked under bark, they could find insects looking to hide out the winter months.

The children have been focussed on building ‘camp fires’ with sticks, twigs and giant piles of leaves. They are wanting to cook and sing songs. This has shown great teamwork and has led to a development of social skills. Lots of problem solving via communication with each other has resulted in many hours of fun at Forest Kindy.

In nature, transformation is happening constantly. But our children have the innate urge to create their own transformations when engaged in unstructured play. I can make some amazing mud stew with this dirt, sand, and water… but what if I add some leaves and mix it all together with a stick? Budding scientists and chefs flourish in the outdoors.
