At BestStart Tory Street the children wanted to play with the cricket bats but we're not sure what to do or how to use them. The teachers got the whole kit out  them with the wickets and tennis balls and showed them what to do, including how to hold the bat using both hands and where to put their feet to stand properly.

Then taking turns, we first rolled the ball then threw it under arm so the children could hit it. This sparked the interest of many children and they joined in to give it a go. Initially some struggled holding on to the bat correctly but with practice they were all able to do it by the end of the morning.

The children were learning new ways to take control of their body, perseverance, social skills, turn taking and patience. They were learning a new skill and waiting to have their turn and hand-eye coordination by watching the ball and swinging the bat at the right time. They also experienced great excitement and joy when they hit the ball.
