A healthy and delicious alternative!
At BestStart Montessori Taradale we have been awarded the Healthy Heart Pā-Harakeke Flourishing Award, which is the highest level, and therefore our food standards are very high.
One of the areas we have looked at in relation to this is birthday celebrations. Of course we all love cake but with so many children celebrating their birthdays with us, the level of cake, and therefore sugar, consumption what not something that fit with our healthy eating goals.
As an alternative, our 3-6 casa now celebrates birthdays with their special person enjoying a birthday tray which contains a fruit tea and a bliss ball. For our younger tamariki in the 0-3 casa, we have introduced a birthday fruit tower. The children who wish to are invited to help cut up the fruit and then all can enjoy the yummy "fruits" of their labours. Both are delicious and still very special options for celebrating each person's special day.
