We have had so many new and exciting things happen this month at BestStart Mahora. We’ve welcomed new Kaiako to our team, and with this, we have been enjoying the most of the fine days and our beautiful outdoor environment. We’ve introduced our new 16 areas of play here at BestStart Mahora and we’ve had so much fun exploring these!

We’ve had Olympic boat races and have done lots of exploring of our vestibular movement by climbing trees and swinging high in the sky. Children love to hang, swing and climb and it’s great for them. These Active Movement experiences help to develop strong muscles in the shoulders, arms, hands and fingers (upper body strength).

We have also enjoyed exploring different ways of playing and using clay. Playdough and clay are both safe and soothing materials and very satisfying for children to play with. They provide children with a great sense of security and many opportunities to be creative and expressive and learn about texture, shape and form.

We have also been working together (mahi tahi) in building an awesome carpentry project! Carpentry play gives children the opportunity to learn to design and build things while developing a wide range of physical and thinking skills. The learning taking place often relates to maths, science, technology and sculptural art. We’ve also been exploring new science concepts within our play. Science and nature play provides children with opportunities to explore their ideas about the natural world and learn about the world around them. This sort of play encourages children to develop their curiosity, ask questions, investigate their environment and learn about ways to find answers. Tobi even blew up a balloon with baking soda and vinegar. Our tamariki absolutely loved this experience!

If you haven’t come in and seen our beautiful environment, please do! We love our space and know you will too!
