A trip to the Museum
As part of our Matariki celebration, we visited the Auckland Museum. It was so exciting to board a bus and travel on the motorway and seeing some famous landmarks, while we were traveling to the Museum.
At the Museum, we explored the part of the building that shows all the Maori heritage and culture and got familiar with some extraordinary artefacts from the Maori culture. We also had an opportunity to visit the Marae at the Museum and learn about the importance in has in the Maori culture.
We were also taking part in the special Matariki programme that the Museum prepared for the holiday and learnt a lot about the Stars of Matariki and the legends behind them. We learned some waiata and danced with poi. It was such a great experience for our children and the parents who joined us on the trip.
At our centre, we include regular trips to the local and wider community to extend on children’s learning. It is also an exciting learning experience for the children as they can learn out of their centre and out of their home. What a great experience.
