Today was a very special day in our preschool as we had Bunnings come to visit! Our current group planning focus is around construction, and we thought what better way to get tamariki 'wondering' about construction than to have someone from the community come into the preschool to build with us (our tamariki are all very familiar with Bunnings and have taken trips there with their whānau). Our tamariki were very excited to find out they were all going to make their very own tea candle holders to take home for themselves and their whānau to enjoy.

As you can see from the photos, the tamariki were oozing rangatiratanga (ownership) and motuhaketanga (autonomy) as they were given the opportunity to take control over their very own construction with kaiako only supporting them if they asked. The many learning outcomes for tamariki that came from this experience were awesome! Developing fine motor skills, using problem solving skills, having to be patient, showing determination, and developing skills with tools and media were among the many.
