This month we have been focusing on active movement in The Children’s House.  Every Thursday we do a music session with ribbons, musical instruments, poi and piupiu. Recently the tamariki have been enjoying the poi and piupiu with Te reo songs including actions and dancing. Active movement is a great way for tamariki to gain control of their bodies with confidence and challenge themselves. The tamariki have been very engaged in active mindfulness, including yoga, stretching and breathing exercises. Yoga is a great activity for balance and concentration, this encourages spatial awareness in a way that expresses themselves. Active movement allows the tamariki to gain control of their body.

The Montessori environment enables children to make independent choices for their learning, The children have a range of purposeful opportunities to develop and refine their coordination of movement.

Children experience an environment where they are encouraged to learn with and alongside others, using a range of strategies and skills to play and learn with others.
