Anzac trip to the Lower Hutt War Memorial
Six-toddler tamariki from BestStart Melling were chosen to embark on a special Anzac trip to the Lower Hutt war memorial. This was our first bus trip and both kaiako and tamariki were super excited. The morning was spent creating poppies to take on the trip. We had two parent helpers and a sibling that came along for the ride. Upon arrival, the tamariki sat down and listened to the stories of one of our parents who had served 15 years in the military. He showed the tamariki all the badges he had earned over the years.
This trip was a special excursion as it supported our centre vision, “Our community, our whanau”. Anzac day was celebrated wonderfully this year as the tamariki had opportunity to pay tribute to fallen soldiers enlisted on the memorial. Not only this but our tamariki enjoyed exploring what’s in our community here in Melling.
