We kicked off April with an Egg-stravagant Easter celebration. Our tamariki made their own Easter baskets and decorated some beautiful Easter Eggs with cellophane for a window display ready for our visit from the Easter Bunny. Our whanau were invited to come and take park in the Egg Hunt when the Easter Bunny arrived and we had so much fun together hunting for eggs. Our tamariki were so supportive with one another too and showed some great teamwork and manakitanga in showing friends where some of the eggs were so that we all had two each. Ātaahua, beautiful! Our tamariki really know how to care for and include one another, tino pai tō mahi tamariki!

On another note, our renovations are coming along well and our tamariki have been really enjoying watching our new mara come into being. Of course the highlight has been watching the diggers and trucks come in. One of our tamariki was so excited about the trucks and talked about his dad’s “really big truck” and was so proud when one morning he got driven in in Dad’s big truck. It was a great talking point for mat time and such a precious moment to be able to link his home experiences to those here at the centre. To support the learning around the construction work happening we’ve been reading fiction and non-fiction pukapuka/books about vehicles and diggers. One of their favourites at the moment is ‘The Little Yellow Digger’ story. One day we changed the kupu/words of the story to ‘The Little Orange Digger’ to match our digger outside. We’ve had lots of digger related experiences this month from songs, role play, imaginative set ups in the sand with little diggers and construction mahi at the carpentry tepu/table where we’ve been making our own vehicles.
