Aroha for Christchurch
The teachers at BestStart Rongotai have been looking at ways that we can teach the children about empathy and respect in times of sadness and crisis.
One way we thought we could show the children how to share the aroha around was to decorate our fence with hearts to show our love for our local community. The children worked hard all week painting bright colours on our love hearts and then once they were dry came out to the fence with us and helped the teachers to place them along our fence.
The children also helped us make a sign for our fence so our community would know that our children are doing their bit to spread the love.
The children also made a very special heart with their handprints which we then laminated and the teachers took down to our local Wellington Islamic Centre - 500metres down the road from our centre. We placed this sign on the fence, to show our support as a teaching team and as a whanau/ family unit in our centre.
