The tamariki in the Mātāmua room at BestStart Lemon Street have been giving showers to the baby toys from the family corner area. Children have taken the responsibility for extending their learning around the “well being” group focus. It started from the pretend play in the family corner area where children realised they needed to give a shower to the babies. Tuakana-teina relationships have been developed, where older children support their younger peers to take the roles of cleaning, drying and dressing up the babies while using responsive and reciprocal skills such as turn taking. An interactive conversation about the importance of taking a shower was evident among tamariki. Children have also demonstrated an awareness of hauora and healthy lifestyles.
