BestStart At Home Learning!

Wow! What an unexpected start to the week! On Tuesday 17th August we entered Level 4 lockdown which we haven’t been in since April 2020. Although the center is not open until levels drop, we are still here daily to connect with our tamariki and whanau.

Our teachers have been working closely together on our Beststart@home programme and thinking of activities to get the children involved in while at home and to help the parents who are seeking creative ideas. We love to show and pass on what we do with the children while in the centre.

We believe children learn through play when they are in the centre, and BestStarts 16 areas of play have been incorporated into the activities we have shared during lockdown. These activities are: Science & nature, Clay & playdough, Collage, Blocks, Puzzles, Sensory baskets, Family dynamic play, Carpentry, Messy Play, Music & Dance, Manipulative resources, Water, Books/storytelling props, Sand, Painting & Drawing, and Physically active play. We hope that the children enjoy taking part in these activities at home.

It is important to us to let everyone know that we are here to support our families through the virtual world, connecting with the children and to continue having fun until we can see each other again!

Please see attached an example of a video on how we translate the work we do in the classroom to the online world! Enjoy.
