Big Ted and Monkey's Adventures
WOW how lucky are we here at BestStart Paraparaumu?! During lockdown our kaiako (teachers) worked hard on keeping connections open with our whanau and wider community (see earlier blog story April 2020). In New Zealand it became a popular event to pop a Teddy in your window so passers-by could see them all whilst out walking. Well in Paraparaumu we had our very own famous Teddy called Big Ted who was sometimes joined by his friend Monkey, at the home of Valerie Roberts. Big Ted and Monkey got up to lots of adventures together out on the lawn for all off our local community to see and enjoy.
Today at BestStart Paraparaumu we were not only gifted a book written by Valerie Roberts about Big Ted and Monkeys adventures, she brought along Big Ted and Monkey for our tamariki (children) to play with, Valerie also personally signed the book and we were blessed to have her come and read it to our tamariki.
What a wonderful way to support and open a discussion for all tamariki, kaiako and whanau around how they felt during Covid and the different ways they got through this together and as a whanau. This aligns so nicely with the work our centre have been doing around supporting our tamariki to gain the ability to self-regulate.
