We can see clearly what is necessary to give in order to help the child. It is to give the possibility of independence, of living together and carrying out social experiences." ~ Maria Montessori ~ Citizen of the World p.28

With Spring here and Summer just coming around the bend it is time for slip, slop, slap! Since the start of September we have been applying sunscreen and wearing sunhats. Tamariki are both encouraged to be independent as well as to help and support each other.

As these pictures show tamariki applying the sunscreen themselves and helping their younger hoa/friends apply it on the back of their necks. In addition, jackets are required for the uncertain weather.

While many if our tamariki are able to put their jackets on by themselves, some needed help to zip them up. Tamariki do not always need a kaiako / teacher to help them as they can ask help from their friends.
