BestStart Lemon Street's preschool tamariki have been really interested in exploring building and construction activities. Teachers have been providing a variety of resources for children to further extend their interest of playing with ideas and materials. Children have opportunities to develop knowledge about the patterns and making sense of the world with the use of different resources including lego, mobilo, blocks, binding sticks, magnetic tiles, wooden pieces and shells and matching puzzle pieces.

Our tamariki  are showing amazing creativity by building things as they name their creations including jet planes, automatic machines, fruit juice machine, towers, flying birdies using wheels. Teachers are encouraging children to describe their patterns in their own words. Children are gaining spatial understanding by fitting various blocks together and taking them apart, rearranging, and reshaping objects and materials. Children are experiencing such a fun learning happening in the Mātāmua room environment every day. We look forward to providing our children with more opportunities to further extend their interest of construction and building.
