Design, hammering, painting, drawing, cutting, gluing and then dramatic play were all part of this Captain America shield project at Richmond Kindy. In the morning the idea was forged and elastic was used to make handles to hold the ‘shield’ on the arm. Then the decorating began. Waiting for the components to dry over lunchtime, the final paint coats were added and the stars glued in place.

When wearing the shield the children became Captain America, explaining what the shield could do and then demonstrating what their bodies could do by running super fast, jumping, climbing and throwing their shields a long way.

This learning experience provided children the opportunity to develop their inquiry and research skills, deepen their thinking and ability to problem solve.
