BestStart Balclutha celebrated the year of the pig, Chinese New Year during February.

We were fortunate to have a visit from Peizhen Zong who is teaching Mandarin at our local high school. Peizhen talked to us about her culture and traditions. She brought some beautiful hair clips to show our tamariki and there was much excitement at being able to try on this amazing taonga.

Our tamariki sang their favourite waiata to Peizhen and in return she sang us a beautiful traditional new years waiata.
This was a very special time for all our tamariki and kaiako.

On February the 5th we had a special meal, and pēpi and tamariki in the Poumahaka room received red envelopes. Tamariki in both rooms undertook several different crafts experiences.
