Aside from the health benefits, cycling in large groups also helps with spatial awareness as faster riders negotiate their way through the crowd. The social learning comes with sharing our wheels with others, waiting for turns and navigating through wheels of all shapes and sizes. We shared bike safety tips and encouraged safety gear and safe riding. Having a bike day creates an experience for tamariki that involves lots of learning in a fun meaningful way. Sharing experiences to revisit later is a great way to unite the centre and promote kotahitanga!
