On the 9th of March kaiako, tamariki and centre whanau immersed ourselves in the wonderful world of colour as we celebrated the Holi Festival.

We encouraged our tamariki, staff and parents to join us in white or light-coloured clothes that they did not mind becoming stained with many coloursand we had an absolute blast. We enjoyed throwing the Holi powder at each other, splashing each other with coloured water and having lots of colourful cuddles.  Although the powder we used was very safe, we spoke to our tamariki around how they could ensure themselves and their peers were safe as we embraced Holi.  It was great to see our centre families also arrive and join in the fun.

At BestStart Wolverton culture is special, unique to each individual and is a part of each child’s and our centre’s identity.  Our tamariki enjoyed learning and participating in their own and other’s cultural experiences and Holi is definitely one of our brightest days here.

The Holi Festival is celebrated through Indian culture and is also popularly known as the Indian "festival of spring", the "festival of colours", or the "festival of love".  We think all these names reflect and embrace aroha for others and ourselves.  Look at the amazing colours we made.
