To celebrate Matariki in the Nursery this year, we have provided lots of activities for the children. Tamariki have participated in art activities and enjoyed making their own stars for our art wall. They also made their own kites, which are hanging in the room. It is great to see tamariki participating in group activities like this, which helps them work on their communication and social skills.

We also created an area of bright and colourful lights in our Nursery where our tamariki could all come together to celebrate through socialising, music and dance. The lights we created signify the Maori New year shown through the cluster of stars that shine in a distinctive formation.

Our current planning is communication and when tamariki participate alongside each other they get opportunity to be creative and expressive. Kaiako also made black/glittery play dough for the tamariki to make stars using the cutters. Great to see our tamariki engaged in a cultural celebration like this.
