Celebrating Sea Week 2022

During March, the nursery celebrated Sea Week 2022 by participating in a variety of ocean experiences.

‘Slippery fish’ and ‘Kina Kina’ waiata soon became favourite songs of many of the tamariki ma. Lots of arts and crafts were made using a variety of different mediums to create sea creatures and the ocean. Visuals were used along with conversations to support ngā tamariki to make connections with the Ocean and all of its living things. Sensory messy play was enjoyed by all as they explored sea animals in a range of different textures.

During these experiences ngā tamariki had plenty of opportunities to further develop their knowledge and skills in many ways. They spent time interacting with each other during group play, using their social skills and communication as well as during mat times and songs. They used their senses to explore art and messy play experiences as they made sense of their world and learned more about the ocean. We had a great time celebrating Sea week together here in the nursery.
