Today we celebrated a special Japanese tradition called Tanabata. The children really enjoyed celebrating this festival.

They were given an opportunity to draw their wishes and hang it on the bamboo plant.  We had lots of discussions about what their dreams are as well as starting to recognise what things they want vs things that they need.  This represents new wishes and aspirations for the New Year.

We also made origami butterflies and other insects for our lovely tamariki.  We really enjoy learning about different traditions and cultures and it is wonderful to welcome parents into the centre to share with us.  We cannot wait for more origami lessons!
