Celebration of Matariki with Community Kindy The Mount
Matariki was a whole week of celebrations this year, and it didn't disappoint! We made soup and cookies, made and flew kites at the park, had a Matariki disco and toasted marshmallows over the fire.
We did all this while supporting learning about Matariki and allowing tamariki to explore and strengthen our local identities, as Matariki holds many meanings throughout Aotearoa. Celebrating Matariki together as a nation provides an opportunity for the Māori language, culture, and history to be more accessible to all New Zealanders both here and overseas. It supports us to reflect the value we place on our cultural heritage and helps us develop a better sense of our national identity.
