Hi everyone!

During the month of February, the children and teachers at Kauri Flats continued to enjoy the warm weather we have been so lucky to have! Sun hats and sunscreen has been a vital part of our daily routines, and so has drinking plenty of water to keep our bodies well hydrated!

We also placed a focus on the celebration of Chinese New Year!

This was a neat experience, and together the children and their teachers did some research about what this meant, and how it looked for our centre in terms of celebration.

We enjoyed many arts and crafts experiences related to the celebration of Chinese New Year, and we also shared kai together one day for lunch AND had a special dress up day in reds, golds, yellows and whites. It is always a very special occasion for us here at Kauri Flats when we get to delve deeper into other cultures and celebrate them! It is important for us to keep these celebrations real, keep them simple and keep them meaningful for the children!

Furthermore, the month of February saw plenty of creativity! Check out our Preschool Rocket! The preschool children have been showing a huge interest in ‘Space’ and so our teachers have been working alongside the tamariki to develop their knowledge and curiosity around this topic! Together, the pre-schoolers designed and built their own Space Rocket from recycled boxes and a whole lot of tin foil. Check out the detail in our pictures – we absolutely love it!

Seeing the children take on such a unique interest really highlights our centre vision of ‘Inspiring through play!’. The level of inquisitiveness that the exploration of such an interest sparks among the children is always heart-warming to observe. The educators at Kauri Flats work hard to ensure that their curriculum planning connects well with the interest of the children, thus keeping the interest alive for as long as the children choose to explore it!

We are so excited to see where our Rocket might take us!
