BestStart Stoddard celebrated Chinese New Year on 11th of February 2021. The year of the Ox. The Ox is the second zodiac animal. According to the myth, the Jade Emperor said the order would be decided by the order in which they arrived at his party. The Ox was about to be the first to arrive, but the Rat tricked Ox into giving him a ride. Then, just as they arrived, a rat jumped down and landed ahead of Ox. Thus, Ox became the second animal. It’s with great anticipation that we welcome in the year of the Ox. According to the astrologers, the Ox denotes diligence, positivity, and honesty in all of us over the upcoming 12 months.

We had several activities like face painting, dumpling making, learning to use chop sticks,  arts, crafts, and children enjoyed delicious noodles for lunch made by the teachers. Recognising and celebrating Chinese New Year is about building children’s understanding of traditions, the activities that happen, food that are associated, and the history about the festival. Therefore, allowing children to celebrate a festival and its associated rituals with an understanding of their significance. It is about supporting children in beginning to understand the commonalities of human values that are shared by all cultures and religions.

For Chinese New Year, a red envelope is a traditional gift for children- We distributed the red envelope with a gift in it to the children given by Best Start, to open at home with their parents and enjoy together.
