Chinese New Year at BestStart Wairakei
In February we celebrated Chinese New Year (The year of the pig) at BestStart Wairakei Road. Jing organised many different experiences for tamariki and whānau. We invited all our families to participate in these activities.
We held a dumpling making day and parents, caregivers and grandparents came to our centre to help our children to make dumplings. The dumplings were eaten at kai time. They were delicious!
Jing invited some musicians to share their talents with our children. We enjoyed beautiful piano music and one of our grandfathers brought along his Chinese flute to play.
On our final day of celebrations, a local Chinese community group entertained the children with dance and martial arts. They also showed our children how to paint traditional Chinese designs. We completed our celebrations by gifting our children with a red envelope and enjoying a yummy shared kai.
