Infant House have spent Haratua supporting our community in several ways. We supported the Otago Community Hospice by wearing all the colours of the rainbow and collecting donations to support the hospice. Our tamariki and pēpi not only wore many colours they painted many colours in preparation of the celebration.

We participated in Pink Shirt Day which is not only a national celebration but a global one. We wore pink to stand together against bullying. Our kaiako always demonstrate kindness within Infant House to role model positive relationships to our tamariki. We promote the concept of grace and courtesy to our pēpi and tamariki as it is a vital part of our Montessori philosophy.

On Friday, the 28th we will be taking part in Gumboot Friday, a national fundraiser to support the provision of mental health counselling for young people by registered mental health practitioners in Aotearoa.

Our national curriculum, Te Whāriki, advocates we support our ākonga to become: “Competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.” (Ministry of Education, 2017, p.5)

By helping our ākonga to understand the events in their community and supporting them to pay it forward we are laying the foundations for our pēpi and tamariki to be valued members of our society and understand the value of paying it forward.
