This week we were very lucky to have a special visitor come into our Preschool - Jacoba from Bunnings Warehouse! We were invited to participate in creating our own boxes. We had either a money box or a trinket box to build. First the children had to listen to the instructions as well as the Kaiako so we could also know what to do. We then set to work. We had to use the hammers and nails to connect the different pieces. We then had to use the glue guns to glue the base to the sides. The children worked really had on their box and were excited to put it together. Then we had to decorate our completed boxes. The children all chose their own paints and designed their own box. Everyone was engaged in their own creations. What an amazing morning we had! Thank you so much to Jacoba! We were so lucky to have you join us and support us this morning!

Through this mornings activities the children were all working on a variety of skills. These include persistence, concentration and working on their fine motor skills. They were making creative choices around their work and exploring a variety of different tools and artistic mediums. This also links in with our current planning cycle around persisting with difficulty and learning through creativity. We hope to see more sessions like this happening through the year as we continue offering the children the opportunity to use real tools and engage in construction experiences.
