As part of our school holiday programme, the preschool teachers planned a variety of fun activities to do each day. We involved the children by asking them what they would like to do as well, so it was a collective effort, not just teacher directed. The tamariki thoroughly enjoyed working together focussing on visual art and their creative skills.

In the preschool room, we feel it is important to provide a platform for tamariki to develop and discover different ways to be creative and express their feelings and skills, in a manner that is enjoyable and allows them the freedom to work as part of a group or on their own.

The tamariki developed reciprocal social skills while sharing resources, bouncing ideas off each other and allowing themselves time to really enjoy being creative. They were very proud of the masks they made and also the face painting that they chose. They are also encouraged to develop a range of skills and strategies to play, learn and create with others.
