Today at BestStart Oamaru Kindy we enjoyed some messy play! The kaiako set up some old wallpaper on a table outside and covered it in blobs of paint for us to explore with our fingers and hands! Messy play like this is a great way for us to explore our senses through the feeling of a variety of textures. While we were exploring the feeling of the paint and wallpaper on our fingers and underneath our hands, we also noticed that the different colours were beginning to mix and turn into other colours! Messy play supports us to explore the properties of what we are playing with and to develop our hand-eye co-ordination and motor skills. Today we were playing as a group and working alongside those around us too! Messy play is a relaxing and calming experience that can  also help us regulate our emotions and develop our emotional well-being; we can learn so much from engaging in messy play!
