Enjoying exploring through sensory play
Our focus in the Nursery over the past month has been exploration. The kaiako in the Nursery discovered that our tamariki really enjoyed exploring through sensory play. On this particular day, kaiako Simone set up trays with foil inside to add to texture. She then filled the tray with foam, topped off with a drizzle of a few different colours of paint. Each child was invited to explore colour mixing in the shaving foam with a thin paint brush.
The tamariki soon discovered that the best tools to use were their hands. Much fun was had as the tamariki explored their senses. It was interesting to see that tamariki who often shy away from tactile experiences were reassured by the reactions of their peers that this experience was fantastically fun to explore.
