Exploring and being creative has been a great interest for ngā tamariki (the children) over the past few months in the Nursery. Children have been involved in various activities, exploring different materials such as painting with cotton buds, flowers and feathers. They have been investigating cornflour gloop, water play, sawdust, potions, pouring and mixing and developing their working theories. This has encouraged group activities and also children learning to express their creativity.

To invite playful learning, pouring and mixing in the tuff tray is a great resource for children.  They are able to use a dropper and mix different coloured water by pouring, mixing, stirring, exploring and investigating.

Another interest being supported for the children is imaginary play with the baby dolls.  The children are copying their teachers care of the infants and the children have been rocking their babies, feeding them and also offering cuddles. They are showing manaakitanga and aroha they have for these dolls which has been seen in the way they are interacting with the pepi (babies) by being gentle and kind.
