Preschoolers are naturally curious explorers, and excursions are an exciting way for them to connect with their environment and community. At BestStart Buchanans, our children look forward to their regular walks through the Broomfield Common Reserve.

These excursions are more than just outings—they are opportunities to build physical abilities, foster a connection with Papatūānuku (Mother Earth), and strengthen links to our local community. Our excursions are rooted in the concept of kaitiakitanga (guardianship), with a strong emphasis on nurturing a love and respect for Papatūānuku.

As the children wander through the reserve and our neighbourhood, they marvel at the natural beauty around them—the rustling leaves, the scent of earth, and the sounds of birdsong. On their walk to Broomfield Common Reserve our Preschoolers learn to observe and appreciate their surroundings, from the houses and structures they pass to the people they greet along the way.

Regular excursions foster a sense of belonging and connection, helping children understand that they are part of a wider community. Our Excursions are a highlight of our preschool program, offering our children the chance to grow physically, emotionally, and spiritually while exploring the natural world. By connecting with Papatūānuku and their local community, our young learners are not only building essential skills but also developing a lifelong appreciation for the environment and the people around them.

At BestStart Buchanans, we believe that every step taken on this journey is a step towards a brighter, more connected future for our Tamariki and our planet. Come and join us on our next adventure!
