We promote all tamariki to engage with physically active play regularly throughout their day to support their health and wellbeing as well as brain development. Through physically active play tamariki are not only enhancing their gross motor development but also supporting the development of their muscles, lungs, hearts and bones.

Therefore, here at BestStart Halswell Road even if the weather is bucketing down outside, we still provide opportunities for tamariki to engage with physically active play inside. Kaiako (teachers) will bring in climbing, balancing and jumping equipment to set up challenge courses, hopscotch and more for tamariki to engage with to burn off energy and challenge themselves.

Through engaging with these experiences inside tamariki and kaiako have korero about how to keep ourselves safe, encourage our peers, take turns and challenge ourselves. Throughout these experiences tamariki grow in confidence to join in with a large group experience as well as seeing their peers challenging themselves and then are able to try too, enhancing their gross motor skills, confidence, contribution and physical development.
