Our kiwi group tamariki at BestStart Opihi have been enjoying exploring the topic of the solar system and space. Kaiako responded to the interest shown by tamariki a few weeks ago by delving into a week long topic about the solar system.

The wiki was started by finding out what tamariki already knew about space. They had lots of ideas to share with one another and it was awesome to hear their thoughts about what it might look like and what might be in space.

Towards the end of the wiki we talked about the mode of transport to get to space. We watched a video of a rocket ship launch and the tamariki were very impressed with how loud it was. We then gathered some loose parts and created our own rocket ship.

Tamariki talked about it needing boosters and worked together to create the rocket ship before painting it and letting it dry. To end the wiki we coloured in some space pictures as our tamariki are currently really enjoying colouring in. It was such a great way to end our topic together. Ka pai to mahi tamariki!

I wonder what we may explore together next?
