Storytelling is a great way to learn languages, enrich children’s vocabulary, learn about different cultures and to enhance the development of imagination and creativity. As part of our daily programme, we introduce different ways of storytelling, and we include stories from different parts of the world and in different languages. This enriches our curriculum and expands children’s knowledge and understanding of different cultures.

The children and the teachers at our centre are always curious about the different ways to tell stories and to listen to them. This time, we had a shadow puppet show for our story time. We listened to some Maori myths and legends, and we learnt how to make our own shadow puppets. We also learnt how to combine singing, dancing, and shadow puppets into our storytelling. The children were very excited to make their own puppets and tell their own stories.
