This month in the Tahi room our tamariki (children) have loved the opportunities to explore using our senses.  Our kaiako (teachers) have provided a range of experiences that allow the children to test and explore their senses in different ways such as cornflour slime, water gel sensory cubes, ice, shaving foam experiences and the list goes on!  A particular highlight for our younger children particularly was the sensory water gel cubes, these cubes had collage materials such as feathers, pompoms, cotton balls, glitter, dye and different essences (peppermint, vanilla and raspberry) as our tamariki poked, squeezed and squished the cubes they changed form and became more of a liquid.  This was a great opportunity for them to discover and learn about the idea of cause and effect - when I do this, this is what happens!

We also had cornflour slime out for the children which was a hit with everyone!  The children love trying to pick it up but as they apply pressure it turns into a solid, once they have picked it up it returns back to its liquid form.  This has been a great chance for our children to learn about and develop their skills in perseverance as they figure out, they are going to get a hold of it and then trying to figure out how they are going to hold it once they have it.
