What an amazing time we had with our two Police officers that come in to share what they do for a job.

Today we learned that as well as catching "Troublemakers", the Police stop and direct traffic in a crash. Apparently, they also take the cars away when there is a crash and help organise the insurance. The Police also help people especially if we get lost.

As well as "eating doughnuts", the Police officers need to eat their fruit and vegetables to keep them healthy. Their vests are very heavy to wear so the Police officers need to be strong to wear them.

We got to go into the police car. Police cars can come in all sorts of colours. The one that came to visit was white. We had the lights and sirens going and we got to use the speaker. I don't know what the neighbour's thought was going on.

Here are some of the children's voices/thoughts:

Some children said they enjoyed the Police car the most. A couple of them liked the Taser and liked to drive in the car. Some liked the walkie talkie, the car and the taser. One of our three-year-olds liked the lights, and the horn. One liked the clothes.  A few said they liked the Police car and talking into the speaker.

Through this experience, our children are making links with the community and the wider world. They are developing an understanding of what the Police do in our community.

To extend our children's interest in this particular pretend play, we will provide opportunities to dress as police officers and make props for their play.
