Over the past few months the children have been developing an understanding of Maori values and concepts through their day to day activities and experiences, such as learning their Mihi, celebrations and concepts of ako and whanaungatanga.  The children at First Steps Seymour love to play outdoors, find bugs and climb trees. To continue on this journey of learning from each other and developing a sense of belonging we have decided to implement a Forest Kindy session where the children will be able to visit their local park and explore within a set boundary to find out about the world around them and make connections to their local environment.

Part of the Forest Kindy concept is that children have freedom within a set area to explore their own interests, the role of the teacher here is to follow, support and offer guidance around safety (if needed).
