At BestStart MacDonald Street our 3-5 year olds, in the Kowhai room, are eagerly becoming frog experts. It started off as an interest for a few of the children and grew from there. Tadpoles were caught and placed in a tank and children are currently able to view the whole metamorphosis effect, as the tadpoles changed into froglets, then frogs.

Our tamariki were questioned on their current frog knowledge and about what they wished to learn - and activities and research is based around this topic. Frog face masks, amazing artwork and frog memory games were just a few of the activities that took place.

Teachers continue to support tamariki in their knowledge around frogs. Teachers can often be found engaging in learning experiences with groups of children and researching information with regards to the questions that were identified as to what children wanted to know about frogs. We have also researched the question around "Are frogs slimey?" "Are frogs colourful?" "Are frogs poisonous?"

We believe in empowering our children to lead their learning whilst supporting them in their journey.
