Getting Creative

The tamariki within the Nest and Koru room have been enjoying being creative lately. A great interest we have within our space is sensory experiences (especially the messy ones). Through this the kaiako have offered many different experiences such as painting, baking, gloop and sandpit play. We are very lucky that one of our talented kaiako created a table for us that is the perfect height for our pepi to explore. The tamariki love exploring and having the fun with using their hands with different sensory experiences (sometimes their whole body!).

Sensory play is a great activity to encourage children to become involved. Most children are naturally drawn to using their hands to play. Sensory activities facilitate exploration and naturally encourages children to use scientific processes while they play, create, investigate and explore. These experiences are also a great way to encourage relationships as children work together or explore alongside each other.
