Here at BestStart Whangaparaoa our children love to get creative with all sorts of different resources.

A consistently different and fun resource that our teachers prepare for the children is ice! This could consist of different shaped ice, small blocks of ice or large chunks, and often they are different colours, scents and sometimes they have secret added ingredients (think baking soda, small animals to rescue, salt). These ingredients mean the set ups are even more fun, because the resources placed alongside the ice cause the children to start to investigate and question! Active exploration in action!

Although Kaiako set these experiences up intentionally, the tamariki continue to amaze us when they challenge our thinking and use the resources in a different way – this keeps our learning fresh and current too!
