At BestStart Botany Junction we are committed to provide the best learning and care environment for our tamariki. Along with all other curriculum areas our ‘Be School Ready’ initiative begins in the Toddlers room and carries on right through to the Preschool room.  We have a language rich, stimulating environment, which promotes the early development of literacy and numeracy skills. Various learning experiences are provided to tamariki throughout the day to encourage them to ask questions, to make sense of their surroundings, to play imaginatively and express themselves creatively, becoming natural learners with confidence and this is the first step to prepare them for the school.

Our Be School Ready initiative helps children to become familiar with the new routines they will find at primary school, like mat-time, self-help skills, taking care of their personal belongings and how to use a pencil properly so they can progress their writing skills, as well as developing essential skills in communicating with others.

We also put emphasis on developing and strengthening their social skills of working with and alongside others, sharing and taking turns, managing themselves and be responsible for their belongings. They are supported in discovering creative and critical thought processes and are provided with stimulating, challenging and purposeful experiences that introduce them to early concepts of maths, science, art, reading and other curriculum areas.
