Gumboot Up NZ Day
Mike King and his amazing team spent much of 2018 on the road of Aotearoa visiting schools and communities and instilling HOPE for our tamariki and their whanau. They are now building a strength based, youth led peer support and mentoring program aimed at empowering our nation’s young people and last Friday was the Gumboot Up New Zealand Day!
Teachers, counsellors and students alike have all given Mike and his Team the message "you made a difference!" At BestStart, we are also all about making a positive difference in a child’s life. We see this as quite fitting that Mike and his team are continuing to advocate and ensure quality support will be available for our very own TopKids tamariki as they continue their education journeys into Primary School.
On Thursday 8th of March our centre turned into a Masterclass of Bakers, tamariki were busy planning, prepping and creating their cupcakes to sell. On Friday the 9th of March our TopKids Avondale held a beautiful Bake Sale and received over whelming support from children, whanau and visitors who purchased our yummy baking and supported this great cause. Our teaching team would also like to thank our wonderful teacher Pooja, who went above and beyond and made Butter Chicken for all of our team and our koha for this delicious lunch went all towards this great cause!
We are proud to tell the world that our tamariki, team and centre whanau at TopKids Avondale raised and donated a remarkable $585.40 for I AM HOPE!! We also take pride in knowing that the money raised will go towards providing FREE and timely counselling for any child in need. How amazing is that!
