Chinese New Year, as our tamariki have come to learn is the most important holiday in China.

It also marks spring time for the Chinese people and they look forward to reuniting with extended family and friends to celebrate the occasion. It is a time where everyone gets together, wish each other the best, exchange presents and share food. Chinese New Year is also an important time for the Chinese people to honor their deities and their ancestors.

The tamariki in centre 1 had a great time celebrating Chinese New Year with their friends and teachers. All the children came dressed with the colour red in their outfits. They learnt about the story of the animal race and how this year is the year of the Ox. The children also enjoyed learning the Chinese spider song.

On Friday, as the tamariki came dressed in red.Kira prepared some yummy Chinese noodle kai for them followed by fortune cookies with fruits for afternoon tea. The children absolutely loved the fortune cookies which had a little message written on it to wish them the best for the year ahead. It was an awesome day as the children danced, enjoyed the food and snacks and took pictures together. At the end of the day the children had little money envelopes and custard buns to take home together with more fortune cookies.

They absolutely loved it!
