Our early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki, emphasises that children will be provided with an environment where they are able to explore and care for people, places and things (Manaakitanga). Harvesting our potatoes after months of watering and tending to their growth was a very exciting way for our tamariki to interact with their friends and to create and build on relationships with other children. It also allowed our children to work on separate jobs but together and be responsible for their environment. Extending the interest of gardening and guiding our tamariki to learn self help skills, confidence and independence are all part of guiding them to become school ready.

We will continue to support our tamariki in other experiences where they can collaborate and reciprocate with others in a team like planting other things in the centre, working in group experiences exploring our community, and being a part of creating and maintaining a class treaty.
