Kiwi Classroom:

In the Kiwi classroom there has been a lot of interest in doctor role play. We have the play medical bags which have stethoscopes, syringes, blood pressure equipment and more. The tamariki enjoy caring for their peers and administering treatment. Some children have begun acting and groaning holding their tummies and asking for medical help. This experience empowers tamariki to negotiate turns and be imaginative and caring within their play.

Kea Classroom:

In the Kea room our interest in space has taken us on many adventures. So many in fact, that we are stuck in Space and not ready to return to Earth yet.

We have been learning about satellites and know that they take photos in space. We know that poor little Pluto is no longer considered a planet anymore. We also know that Earth goes around the sun and when we face the sun, it’s hot.

Tamariki have painted and decorated the spaceships, made satellites, and enjoyed listening to Billie’s book about a bear in space. We have been counting backwards from ten to launch our rocket ships, a few friends made astronaut helmets, hidden in our parachute spaceship, blown-up lids with vinegar and baking soda and now Sandra is off to the supermarket to get 30 suitable boxes for all the other tamariki to make their own helmets.

Nursery:

We would like to share with everyone the morning routine for Kai time. Our older tamariki take an active role within our action songs and karakia, supporting and role modelling for our young tamariki. This is a great example of Tuakana/Teina in action!
